This homeowner in Endicott, NY had a very drafty attic that was making the home hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter. In order to make the homeowner comfortable year round, we proposed to seal the entryway to the attic since they did not need or want access to the attic. We insulated the attic with blown in TruSoft Insulation and then installed a hatch system to the attic entryway. This resulted in the attic being completely sealed from the home and won't be causing comfort issues anymore but it can still be accessed if need be without major disturbance to the installed insulation.
This customer had an uncomfortable home that was very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. We proposed many options to fix his issues and we decided to do the #1 priority first. This just so happened to be the attic. The attic was so leaky that it was creating many drafts in the home and also pulling the outside air into the conditioned space of the home to replace the air that was escaping through the attic. We proposed to air seal the attic from any leaks that air could pass through and then we open blowed TruSoft Insulation to insulate the attic.
This customer was concerned about his home because he thought it was well insulated with fiberglass but he was still experiencing very hot rooms in the summer and very cold rooms in the winter. We explained to the homeowner that the fiberglass insulation was not acting as a proper insulating material. There was no air sealing done so air was just passing right through the home and through the filberglass and then straight to the outside. All of that air that he paid to heat/cool was escaping. We proposed to air seal his attic as well as open blow many inches of TruSoft insulation to fix his problems. Since the work has been completed he has already noticed a difference in his energy usage as well as his overall comfort in his home.
This attic was first air sealed to prevent any air from leaking in or out of the attic and then the flat was open blown with TruSoft Insulation to better insulate the home and protect it from outside weather conditions.
Drafty homes with cold floors are just plain uncomfortable. This house was all that and then some. We wanted to do something for this homeowner quickly before winter sets in and they have to live through the pain and suffering of problems due to a lack of insulation. We decided to start with the basement to solve some of their immdiate problems. Spray foaming the basement walls with our closed cell spray foam will vastly improve their issues.
