The homeowners called Complete Home Solutions to find the sourse of the problems. Our Auditor went to the home in La Plata and determined that the source of the problem was moisture in the crawl space that was causing the insulation to sag away from the floor and become ineffective. Our Production Team went into the home and sealed the crawl space. They used plastic to seal the floor to prevent moisture from seeping into the crawl space and removed the old insulation and replaced it before sealing the insulation off seperate from the floor to keep the air from the home from seeping through any cracks in the floor or gaps in the insulation.
This homeowner living in La Plata, Maryland did not thinking that her home was acting as energy efficiently as it should have been. She wanted a professional to show her how she could improve. She was introduced to Complete Home Solutions who provided her with a home energy audit.
Two of the bigger improvements that we were able to make for her house were air sealing and insulating the attic with loose fill cellulose insulation. We also weatherstripped around the doors and windows and made a few other minor improvements. We did what the homeowner wanted and really increased the energy efficiency of this home.
When we at Complete Home Solutions look at an attic like this, we see some major issues. The biggest one is the lack of air sealing. When we look at the floors and walls we should be seeing some form of air sealing...we don't. We should also see an attic filled with at least 16 inches of good insulation... we don't see that either. Instead, what we see is a home that is wasting its energy and money trying to reach a comfortable temperature. By air sealing and blowing in cellulose insulation, we were able to correct these problems and deliver a comfortable house to a much happier family.
