This homeowner was experiencing a lot of home comfort issues: drafty rooms, hot & humid summers, cold winters, etc. These issues mainly stemmed from a couple of problem areas in the attic. Firstly, it wasn't air sealed and was under insulated. Secondly, the insulation that was being used around the duct work was spotty and deteriorating. This really explains the issues that the homeowner was having.
We corrected the first problem by caulking all along the floor boards and applying blown in cellulose insulation. We corrected the second problem by installing SilverGlo foam board all around the duct work and sealing it off with caulk. Goodbye uncomfortable rooms and hello affordable utility bills!
This homeowner noticed that he didn't have a lot of insulation in his attic and knew that it must have been affecting his home's comfort. He asked Complete Home Solutions to come take a look and see if there was anything else that could be done to make his attic more energy efficient.
We sent out one of our home comfort specialists to take a look. He found that the attic could've, indeed, used more insulation but it also could've used some serious air sealing. This involved us installing spray foam insulation and caulk around penetrations and cavities (such as ceiling fixture penetrations) in order to prevent air leakage. We also provided a few other smaller solutions to complete the effect. Ultimately, this homeowner gained a more comfortable, less expensive house.

Suzanne called Complete Home solutions after hearing from a friend how much more efficient and comfortable her home was. Following an energy audit conducted by one of our Home Comofrt Specialist, the recommendation was made to address the poorly insulated attic of the home . On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam. The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Suzanne noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how her house performs in the hot and humid summer months ahead.

After moving into her White Plains, MD home last year, Evelyn had a Home Energy Audit conducted by Complete Home Solutions to determine how energy efficient the house was. Following the Audit, our Home Comfort Specialist found several areas of the home that could be enhanced to improve on home efficiency and home comfort. Evelyn followed all of the recommendations and began to chip away at each project. Our crew began by first fully encapsulating her crawl space. They then installed a new mini-split HVAC system, and the final improvement was to properly air seal and insulate the attic. As you can see above the attic had old fiberglass batt insulation that was well below current standards to keep the home properly insulated. To fix the comfort issues our crew began by pulling back the old insulation and air sealing any recessed light covers, top plates, and cracks in the drywall then blew in a fresh layer of cellulose insulation to give this home a proper 16 inches of insulation. By air sealing it prevents any conditioned air from escaping the living space of your home, and adding insulation creates a 16in barrier between the attic temperature and the rest of your home.
Evelyn home has now been properly insulated and sealed from top to bottom. These steps will help keep her home comfortable all year round, and also help her HVAC system run less, saving money on monthly utility bills.
