Mark D. has a big, beautiful house in Crofton, Maryland. The problem with having a big house, though, is keeping it from getting drafty. He noticed that he was never quite comfortable and his energy bills were higher than they should have been. So, he called Complete Home Solutions.

We performed a home energy audit and found that the attic was the source for many of his problems. Along with the insulation that we provided inside the attic (including installing TruSoft Cellulose and Polyiso foam board) we had to construct an insulation dam around the attic access hatch. That is what you see here. This creates a barrier which allows for the proper level of insulation in the attic. (It may not look like much, but it is crucial in the weatherization process). If you have never been in your attic, there is a good chance it looks like this home's attic in Crofton, MD. The homeowner had called Complete Home Solutions for an A/C tune-up thinking that was the cause of the uncomfortable upstairs conditions. Following a thorough analysis of the home and the HVAC system, it was determined that the root cause of the inconsistent temperatures was due to the insulation levels in the attic. Air sealing ensures that there are no seams or cracks around top plates, recessed lights, or outlets that could allow conditioned air to rise and escape from the living area of your home. The next step was building an attic hatch damn at the entrance to the attic. This process allows our crew to blow insulation as close to your attic hatch as possible while also making the entryway clean if you have to get into your attic. The final step is to add a new blanket of Cellulose insulation to the attic to ensure 16 inches of insulation all the way around the attic.

Donald called Complete Home solutions after another year of uncomfortable conditions in his Crofton, MD home. In the winter months, he struggles to keep it warm, and in the hot summer months, the upstairs is unbearable.  Following a Home Energy Audit, conducted by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that the condition of the home's attic was the main culprit in the home's uncomfortable home. On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam.  The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Eric noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how his house performs in the hot and humid summer months ahead.
