After a year of living in his Pasadena home, Stephen called Complete Home Solutions to discuss some comfort issues he was experiencing. The issues seemed to be impacting the upstairs of his 2 story home more than anywhere else in the home. In the summer certain rooms just couldn't seem to stay cool, and it was nearly impossible to keep those same rooms warm in the winter. After a full home examination from one of our Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that the condition of the home's attic insulation was a leading culprit in the home's uncomfortable upstairs temperatures.  While comfort was a priority, Stephen did not want to lose the valuable storage space his attic currently had, luckily for Stephen, we had a solution. On the day our crew began work on the attic they began by pulling back the existing insulation to ensure the area was properly air sealed. Air sealing ensures that there are no seams or cracks around top plates, recessed lights, or outlets that could allow conditioned air to rise and escape from the living area of your home. The next step was building an attic hatch damn at the entrance to the attic. This process allows our crew to blow insulation as close to your attic hatch as possible while also making the entryway clean if you have to get into your attic. The final step is to add a new blanket of Cellulose insulation to the attic to ensure 16 inches of insulation all the way around the attic. When rebuilding the super deck for storage, we use our SilverGlo foam board underneath the plywood base to ensure that no areas are missed when related to the insulated thermal barrier.

We went ahead and installed 6" of TruSoft cellulose insulation, which brought up the attic's insulation levels to R-49 (the BPI recommended standard for our climate zone). We also treated the attic access hatch with caulk and weather stripping in order to help keep all that conditioned air where it needs to be.
