Having enough insulation in your attic is an essential part to maintaining a comfortable home at an affordable cost - this is something that more and more people are realizing today. Air sealing is another essential part to achieving this - something that a lot of people don't realize.
Complete Home Solutions was able to do both of these things (air sealing and insulating) for this customer's attic - using blown in cellulose to insulate. These improvements will keep her home cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and lower her utility bills.
After hearing about the BGE Home Energy Audit program, Rebecca called Complete Home Solutions to give her home a full evaluation. After looking over the whole house including several key systems, our Home Comfort Specialist recommended air sealing the attic and making sure the insulation was up to code. On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam. The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Rebecca noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how her house performs in the future.

This homeowner from Linthicum Heights, Maryland was suffering from really cold floors this past winter. She wasn't sure what she could do to fix this problem, but ran into a company who could -- Complete Home Solutions.
We gave her an energy audit to figure out the root cause of her discomfort. We discovered that her crawl space was the main problem. If you leave a crawl space untreated (i.e. no air sealing and no insulation), then you are essentially allowing for cold air to leak into your house from it. This is what has been happening here. Lucky for her we knew how to fix this problem and make this home comfortable!
This homeowner living in Arnold, Maryland was facing a very serious dilemma. He knew that winter was coming and he knew that it was supposed to be a cold one. The coldest one in a while, actually. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to make it through with they way his house was (rooms always cold, freezing hardwood floors, etc). He had gotten an estimate with Complete Home Solutions a couple of months before, but wasn't sure if he was ready to make the committment. After taking some time to think about it, he decided to take the plunge!
Thank goodness he did, because we made some changes that were a big deal. As you can see in the picture, the insulation and radiant barrier in the crawlspace were wrecked! The first thing we did was to rip those up and out of there. We air sealed all over, including along the rim joists, vents, and cracks. We then installed some fiberglass batt insulation and a new radiant vapor barrier. Now Mr. Homeowner is ready for winter!
This homeowner in Severna Park, Maryland could not understand why her house was so cold. She knew that she had insulation in her attic, and yet she could never seem to retain heat in her house. She had Complete Home Solutions come take a look at her house to figure it out.
We found that her attic did have insulation, but there wasn't enough, it had spots that were too old, and there was no air sealing underneath. We fixed those problems by removing the spots of insulation that were no good, air sealing the attic base, and installing blown-in cellulose insulation. Now this homeowner can enjoy a warm home.
