Older homes are notorious for leaking air. Air leaks mean loss of energy and increased utility costs of heating and air conditioning. This problem is typically caused by many factors. This home in Viola, DE had leaky basement windows which were replaced with EverLast™ vinyl windows. But perhaps one of the biggest losses was occurring around the fireplace damper. These are hard to seal and result in huge amounts of energy loss. Lawson Home Services installed a Airtight Spring Top Chimney Cap , which is operated by a cable connecting it to the damper control. This certain helped reduce the the air leak in this home.
The blower door test readings shown in the before and after photos above are proof of the reduction in air leakiness of this home - CUT IN HALF! This will have a huge impact on utility costs for this happy homeowner.
The numerous leaks and cracks in the ductwork of this 1964 Colonial Style home in Claymont, DE did not escape the eagle-eye of Lawson Home Services Specialist, Troy Rowland. This home, built over half a century ago, had numerous issues, but this metal ductwork was particularly leaky. In fact it was so leaky it almost went completely off the scale of the equipment measuring it.
But this was no problem for our steadfast crew. They went to work and soon the numbers began falling. When the work was finished the duct leakage was about one-fifth the amount it was before the work began.
Good job Troy, for discovering those leaks to begin with, and thank you to the hard working crew for sealing them right up. We know this homeowner is going to be a lot more comfortable in the cold winters and hot humid summers to come in the following years.
This home in Harrington, DE, built in 1989, needed a lot of upgrades. There were so many things this home needed. This wise homeowner chose to invest in a complete makeover of both her attic and crawlspace. In addition, all her HVAC and Dryer vent duct work were cleaned out, and air sealed to prevent costly unwanted leaks. We even cleaned off her HVAC coils (which really needed it).
When it was all finished the homeowner was delighted. She even sent us a kind note in the mail, to let us know she was very happy with the workers during the process. It's so nice to know our efforts to go above and beyond do not go unnoticed.

Lawson Home Services' energy auditor sees the same things over and over: Under insulated attics filled with all kinds of dead animals and bugs, penetrations all over the attic floor contributing to loss of valuable conditioned air from the living spaces below, musty damp ventilated crawlspaces, standing puddles of water everywhere on the crawlspace floor with who knows what festering in that, uninsulated rim band joists. And to think all that is just a few feet away from the space where you live, breathe, sleep, bathe. And of course there are the negative aspects, the energy cost, comfort, and indoor air quality issues that result from all these deficiencies.
Dr. Energy Saver has a cost effective solution for all this. Why not find out by calling Lawson Home Services today to schedule an energy audit for your home. The best part is most of the cost will be paid for by the "Energize Delaware" Program - your out-of-pocket expense will be just a fraction of the actual cost of the audit, money well spent!

Lawson Home Services has visited this Magnolia, DE home many times for annual follow up maintenance inspections since encapsulating the crawlspace and installing a Sedona SaniDry™ dehumidifier back in 2014. Lawson's annual maintenance service includes a thorough inspection to ensure all previously installed measures. are still functioning properly. Pumps and hoses are disassembled and cleaned, and replaced if needed.
During this visit Lawson's tech, John Carpenter, discovered a plumber had relocated the SaniDry™ within the crawlspace but failed to level the unit properly. Worse yet, the plumber had replaced the discharge line in such a way that could have completely caused the dehumidifier to stop doing its job. The discharge water was overflowing from the unit onto the floor of the crawlspace. John leveled the unit, cleaned it, removed the dirty condensate hose, and replaced it with a new one. Now the water from the dehumidifier is going where it belongs instead of back into the air from which it was removed.
