Reducing Humidity in a Basement in South Windsor, CT

This homeowner called us out to their home in South Windsor, CT to take a look at some serious problems they were experiencing. The main reason they called Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions was because they were having issues with mold in their kitchen and basement. Due to some water damage over time there was mold under the kitchen sink, leaking down onto the rim joist in the basement. Humidity issues in the basement also took a part in that. When we got to the home we asked the homeowner about all of their concerns, for the entire home. The mold issue was their main concern, but they also were experiencing another problem. Their basement was always very uncomfortably humid. The rim joist is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps in the framing members allow for a great deal of air leakage in and out of the home. This can result in cold floors, high heating and cooling bills, as well as condensation in the basement and crawlspaces. When its hot and humid out, the homeowner was experiencing this poor air quality. This was due to outside air easily leaking into the home, making the basement an uncomfortable space. First we take care of the kitchen issues, and we can focus on the basement. Now, we know what we need to do to help this homeowner.

The first thing we need to do is spray our Mold-X treatment spray on the effected areas on the rim joist. We make sure we take care of all of the mold in the basement in order to be able to properly air seal with no reoccurring mold issues. After we have completed this step we are ready to air seal. We spray our two-part expanding SprayFoam  over the rim joist and end plates. This stops all air leaks from outside and insulates this important part of your home. Dr. Energy Savers SprayFoam has a high insulation value of R7. Since this foam expands after we spray, it seals up all of the gaps, cracks, and joints where air from the outside was easily entering the home. This finally corrected the basement mold and humidity problem. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner is now more comfortable, happy, and energy efficiently in their home no matter the season!!

Making a Basement Warmer in South Windsor, CT

This homeowner called us out to their home in South Windsor, CT to help them with their freezing cold basement. When we conducted our full home Energy Evaluation we noticed that their basement walls were insulated with fiberglass insulation. Fiberglass insulation will not work efficiently on its own, we know that if there isn't something covering the open side of the fiberglass insulated walls air is easily able to travel in and out of the home. In the winter this can create freezing cold basements, and cold floors above. We knew what we needed to do to help this homeowner.

We install our Fomax foam boards on the basement walls covering the fiberglass. We make sure to fasten the foam boards with Dr. Energy Saver's Foam-Tite Fasteners to keep the board in place. Now that the board is up, the fiberglass isn't left to try and do all the work on its own. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this is now a comfortable, warmer basement for this homeowner!

Making a Home Warmer in South Windsor, CT

This homeowner in South Windsor, CT called us out to their home for a Home Energy Evaluation because their home was very cold and drafty. This home had some old, inefficient fiberglass without air any sealing in their attic. This allows conditioned or heated air that is paid for to escape the home. They also had an un-insulated HVAC system in the attic, which makes for major heat loss!

We first removed all of the old, fiberglass insulation and properly disposed of the materials. Now, we get to sprayfoaming the HVAC system. It is important to keep the heat coming off of it from entering the attic. Now we seal up all top plates, end plates, and any areas where air can escape from the home into the attic and be lost with foam.

This homeowner wanted to be able to still have a storage area so we built them an insulated catwalk space for them. Now, blow our TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the attic. Cellulose will fill in any odd-shaped voids and gaps. Now, thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner is happier, will be warmer, and is living more energy efficient!

Knee Wall Insulation in South Windsor, CT

The homeowners contacted Fogarty's Home Services to insulate knee walls in the attic that they were unable to reach. The roof is steep and the snow had been melting right down to the shingles. The rooms below the attic were always cold in the winter and the homeowners had to turn their heat on all the time.

After removing the old batt insulation, Fogarty's Home Services installed SilverGlo foam insulation panels to air-seal and insulate the area. This will reflect heat from the attic in the hot months and keep the warmer air inside the home in the cold months. This reduces the need to turn the heat on all the time, thus decreasing energy costs significantly, making the home and utility costs more comfortable for the homeowners.

Removal of Old, Dirty Attic Insulation in South Windsor, CT

Attic insulation in your home can get pretty nasty! Over many years it sits there collecting dirt, dust, pollen, bugs, rodent feces (from mice, squirrels, bats, etc.), bird droppings and nests and all kinds of undesirable things. We remove the old, nasty insulation from your home and start fresh. This is done prior to adding enough TruSoft™ blown cellulose insulation to today’s standards and proper air sealing.

Fogarty's Home Services will conduct the unpleasant task of removing the damaged, soiled insulation in your attic. Batt insulation is bagged and then the attic is vacuumed to remove pieces, parts and dust. Loose fill insulation is vacuumed with a giant vacuum located outside with giant filter bags and a very long, fat hose. The result is now your attic is clean and ready for proper air sealing and installation of clean, new, fresh TruSoft™ cellulose insulation to make your home more comfortable.
