Before we were called, this attic was a major source of high energy costs for this Farmington home and made the rooms directly beneath the attic cold and drafty during the winter. When we got the call we quickly realized the problem was due to a lack of insulation and proper air sealing. We then insulated the attic with our open-cell spray foam, which has an excellent gap and crack filling capability, as well as the ability to stop air leaks. Our attic insulation installation cut the heating & cooling costs of this Farmington, CT home by as much as 40% for the owners!
This attic used to be very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It was making energy costs for the homeowner sky high. We stopped the air leaks and reduced the heating and cooling expenses by installing open-cell spray foam insulation. However, the spray foam around the fireplace could potentially heat up and cause a fire hazard. To prevent this, we wrapped the upper part of the chimney with RockWool, insulation with a melting point of 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. The owners of this home now can enjoy their fireplace and home at a fraction of the price!
This Farmington home had some major issues with air leakage from a lack of insulation. By coating the roof of this attic with open-cell spray foam, we were able to transform this drafty attic into an air-sealed, energy saving space. We lowered the heating and cooling costs in this Farmington, CT home by up to 40%!
When we arrived in this attic, leaking air and heat moved easily between the living space and the attic at every recessed light location. Without a cover, air flowed freely around holes in the can and through the edges of the drywall opening. Our solution was to install a special noncombustible cover around the “can” and then add extra insulation. Because of this insulation and air sealing, the house will stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
The owners of this home used to waste hundreds of dollars on heating and cooling every year because their home has too little attic insulation and too much air leakage into the attic space. The owners soon realized that they had a problem and contacted Dr. Energy Saver or Connecticut.
We quickly diagnosed the problem and realized the insulation needed to be replaced. We installed the SuperAttic system, which utilizes SilverGlo rigid foam insulation. These panels create a continuous air and insulation barrier directly beneath the attic roof, with no thermal bridging to compromise energy performance. With the SuperAttic system, roof ventilation is maintained without allowing exterior air to enter the attic space. As an added benefit, SilverGlo insulation panels include an integral radiant barrier that further reduces heating and cooling costs. With the SuperAttic insulation installed, these homeowners were pleased to find they saved on energy costs and had a home that now stayed warm during the winter!
