Comment: We live in a Cape Cod style house which has central air conditioning. However, the upstairs living levels are very cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. A couple of years ago we had an energy audit done. We were told all leaks were sealed in the basement and first floor living areas, but not in the attic area which they did not get to. We suspect the attic is sorely lacking in insulation, and we also get ice dams during any snowy and cold winter. Unknown what kind of wall insulation there is in our home, but they are cold in winter. There is also some kind of dirt or growth on the roof on north side of the house. Mold in the attic area?

Comment: My upstairs rooms "bake" in the summertime. I don't use my attic at all but I wonder can anything be done to cool it off a bit. I have no idea of costs but my portable AC's run all summer and I am looking to save the energy bill. House is a colonial (old) with an attic fan (not used) House is approximately 1500 square feet. Need rough estimate of costs. Any financing?
